Abstract : A key is given to the eight species of Oligonychus known to infest plants in India, with notes on five of them. These are O. pratensis (Banks), which was found on Cymbopogon sp. in Karnataka (Mysore) in 1968 and had not previously been recorded either from India or from this plant; O. mangiferus (Rahm. & Sapra), which infests Eugenia (Syzygium) jambolana, E. jambos (Jambosa vulgaris), grape vine and mango and is recorded for the first time from Karnataka and from E. jambos; O. biharensis (Hirst), which was found in Karnataka on areca palm (Areca catechu) and Gliricidia sepium (maculata) (from the last of which it had not previously been recorded); O. indicus (Hirst) on coconut and areca palm, banana, sorghum (in Karnataka), sugar-cane and grasses; and O. oryzae (Hirst), which infests rice in Tamil Nadu and is not known to occur in Karnataka.ADDITIONAL ABSTRACT:Including the first report of O.pratensis in India, on lemon grass (Cymbopogon sp.).
