Abstract : Banganapally (Benishan) scionwood was propagated by inarching, veneer grafting, patch budding and shield budding onto Moovandan polyembryonic rootstocks on the 1st and 16th day of each month from Jan. 1978 to Dec. 1980 (20 replicates per graft type). Inarching gave the highest success rate (31.6-91.6% throughout the year). Veneer grafting was equally successful in Aug. and Sep. (monsoon months) but poorer at other times. Patch budding and shield budding gave the lowest success rates throughout the year. Plants propagated by the 4 methods in June-July 1980 were studied under field conditions. Compared with the other methods, inarching generally gave smaller plants of lower spread, when measured from 1982 to 1984.
