Abstract : Mango cv. Rajapuri, planted in 1979 at 6 × 6 m, was interplanted (4 replicates) from 1980 with (a) banana, (b) cassava, (c) tomato followed by cluster bean [Cyamopsis tetragonoloba], or (d) brinjal [aubergines] followed by cowpea [Vigna unguiculata]. Additional nutrients were applied for the intercrops. Yield of mango was not significantly affected by intercropping, but in 1983, the height and spread of trees interplanted with banana and cassava were significantly greater than those of control monocropped trees. Mango grown with tomato and cluster bean as intercrops gave the greatest financial return per hectare.
