Abstract : Alphonso mango trees, raised on open-pollinated monoembryonic Alphonso and 7 polyembryonic stocks, were planted in a randomized block design with 4 replicates in 1979. Trees on Vellaikulamban showed the least growth, and on Muvandan and Olour the most growth, although only the scion girths showed statistically significant differences. Olour gave the highest, and Vellaikulamban and Chandrakaran the lowest crop weight and fruit number. Differences in individual fruit weight and quality between stocks were not significant. Other stocks in the trial were Bappakai, Kurukan and Mylepelian. Leaf N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, Fe, Mn, Zn and Cu contents were measured but did not correlate well with growth and cropping.
