Abstract : Twelve- to 15-month-old mango seedlings were wedge-grafted with 9 scions (defoliated 8 days earlier) in mid-Aug. 1982. After 45 days, graft take was 70-90%. Survival after 120 days was 100% for Pairy, Kesar, Pundur and Panchdharkalsa and 72-85% for Neelum, Local-1, Local-2, Totapari and Banganpalli. In a separate trial, Pairy and Langra were grafted at fortnightly intervals between 20 Aug. 1983 and 30 Sep. 1983. Initial graft take was higher in Sep.-grafted trees, but survival after 180 days was higher for earlier grafts. Hence, Aug. to early Sep. is recommended for softwood grafting under Akola conditions.
