Abstract : Methods of propagation of rootstocks (air-layering and marcotting, stooling and trench-layering, stem-cuttings and tissue culture), and of grafting of scions (inarching, budding, veneer-grafting, side-grafting, epicotyl-grafting and soft-wood grafting) are reviewed. Veneer grafting is generally the most successful method, and stooling is superior to layering for propagation. Selection of dwarfing rootstocks and more intensive work on micropropagation should lead to further improvements.
