Abstract : Factors affecting the success of graft union establishment in the wedge grafting of Alphonso mango on to newly germinated mango seedlings were studied. Grafting in the warm humid months of June and July gave the highest survival (72-78%). The age of rootstock (1-6 weeks) did not significantly affect success. Graft survival and subsequent plant growth were improved when 2 different rootstocks were used for a single scion. Defoliation of scion shoots was not necessary, but the scions should not be stored for more than 4 days before grafting. Best graft survival was obtained using potting mixtures consisting of soil:vermiculite (3:1) or soil:FYM (3:1). Transferring plants to the open when leaves turned pale green gave maximum survival.
