Abstract : Stone grafting under the humid tropical conditions of Kerala was performed on the 15th day of each month from May to Aug. using scion shoots defoliated either previously or on the day of grafting. Sprouting and survival were highest for Aug. and lowest for May graftings, and were higher for scions defoliated 10 or 15 days prior to grafting than on the day of grafting. In a second experiment, the effect of age of seedlings and scions on graft survival was studied. The survival rate was in the order: 4 months > 6 months > 2 months for scions, and 5 days > 10 days > 15 days for seedlings.
