Abstract : High density planting (2.5 m × 2.5 m, 1600 plants/ha) is possible with the new mango cultivar Amrapali (Dashehari X Neelum), which is precocious, dwarf, regular bearing and prolific. Amrapali was grafted onto seedling rootstocks in situ in 1975. The plants were fertilized with farmyard manure and NPK fertilizers and irrigated from flowering until Oct. Branching was induced in the years before fruiting by pinching out terminal buds. Yields in the 4th year (1979) were 11.5 t/ha, and increased to 22.2 t/ha in 1984, well above the national average (8.67 t/ha) mango yield.
