Abstract : A comparison was made between low (12 × 12 m) and high (3.0 × 2.5 m) density planting of veneer grafted Dashehari mango. Trees were planted in Aug. 1976 in 0.162-ha plots, and supplied with N, P and K each year. Fruit yields were recorded from 1981 to 1984. Although there were differences in mean fruit weight, % of trees fruiting, and fruit yield per tree between the 2 different planting densities, the differences were inconsistent in different years. The 4-year average of fruit yield per tree was similar (c. 4 kg/tree) for the 2 planting densities, but because there were almost 20 times as many trees in the high density planting, the mean yield per ha was 22 times that of the low density planting. Mean fruit weight increased with tree age. There were no significant differences in scion length, number of primary branches, tree spread and trunk diameter, between trees planted at low and high densities during 1981 to 1984.
