Studies to prolong shelf-life of mango fruits.

Abstract : Dipping of Keshar mango fruits in solutions of NAA (200 p.p.m.) and BA (15 p.p.m.), to delay ripening, and packing in lots of 10 in polyethylene bags (30 × 40 cm, 100 gauge with 0.2% perforation) reduced weight loss, maintained fruit quality and prolonged storage life by 4-8 days, compared with untreated, non-wrapped fruit. NAA was more effective than BA in delaying ripening. Inclusion of a bag of Vermiculite (30 g) saturated with KMnO4 in the polyethylene bags gave a further reduction of weight loss and storage disorders.
