Abstract : Ether extraction of malformed panicles of Dashehari mango at full bloom, followed by chromatography and bioassay, gave 3 malformin fractions, M1, M2 and M3. Factor M3 appeared to be the same cyclic pentapeptide as the already characterized malformin A, and on hydrolysis gave cystine, valine, leucine and isoleucine. Malformin content varied with the growth and health status of the panicles. Treatment of malformed panicles with the antimalformins glutathione (560 p.p.m.), ascorbic acid (1055 p.p.m.), K2S2O5 (560 p.p.m.), AgNO3 (2400 p.p.m.) and NAA (200 p.p.m.) gave 87, 93, 93, 80 and 40% conversions, respectively, to healthy panicles.
