Abstract : Terminal fruiting buds from major flushes produced in Mar., July and Sep. by cv. Dashehari (alternate bearer) and cv. Bangalora (regular bearer) trees were sampled each month between May and Dec. and analysed for RNA, DNA, total and soluble proteins and TCA-soluble amino acids. In general, there was a slow increase in levels of all these metabolites during the period studied. Buds from the Mar. flush of Dashehari had the highest levels of metabolites. There was a sharp increase in RNA, DNA and soluble proteins contents, but a slight decrease in insoluble proteins and amino acids, during Oct.-Nov., the peak period of fruit bud differentiation.
