Abstract : Mandarin trees were sprayed with ethephon (0, 100, 300 or 500 p.p.m.) on 27 Sep. or 12 Oct. The highest rate of ethephon application (on both dates) accelerated degreening on the tree and advanced the harvesting date, compared with the controls and the other ethephon treatments. However, this rate of ethephon induced a high percentage of leaf drop (21.45%) and fruit drop [percentage not specified]. Ethephon application had no effect on the storage quality of fruits kept for 2 weeks from 23 Nov. to 7 Dec.
