Carambola fly in Suriname attacks wide range of fruits.
Agriculture International 43 : 252-253
Abstract : A fly of the Dacus dorsalis [Bactrocera dorsalis] complex of South East Asia, named initially Dacus [Bactrocera] sp. near dorsalis, was recorded in Surinam in 1985. Its preferred host plants were Averrhoa carambola and Syzygium samarangense, although guava, mango and Malpighia glabra were also regularly infested. Other cultivated fruits were occasional hosts but the fly was not found on any wild fruits. The distribution of the species in Surinam is described. It is suggested that use of the attractant methyl eugenol could make an eradication programme relatively simple to carry out.
