Abstract : Several mango varieties were studied. Fruit set from selfing was less than that from cross pollination. Differences in fruit development were also noted between self and cross-pollinated plants. S-allele (self sterility) action was delayed and inhibition occurred in the embryo sac after fertilization. Fertilization took place 72 to 96 days after both types of pollination.
