Inligtingsbulletin - Navorsingsinstituut vir Sitrus en Subtropiese Vrugte  :15

Abstract : Increased exports of mangoes from South Africa make the effective control of the diaspidid Aulacaspis tubercularis essential. In trials with insecticides, phenthoate was found to be the most effective and a full cover spray in the last fortnight of October is recommended. For late cultivars, a 2nd spray 6 weeks after the 1st is recommended, but the 1st spray remains the most important. Trials were carried out with mineral oil in combination with phenthoate, but these treatments are not yet registered. Oil should be used with care as adverse effects such as reduced flowering, oil burns and fruit drop may occur if the timing of the spray is incorrect.
