Abstract : A chromosome count of n = 12 was found in Anacardium occidentale from Assam. This differs from previous reports of 2n = 40 [See also PBA 24, 2776] and of 2n = 42. A chromosome count of n = 20 was confirmed in Mangifera indica. Spondias pinnata is reported with n = 16, which also confirms an earlier finding. Pistacia integerrima is reported to have n = 15 in the first count for the species. It is suggested that the family has evolved from a stock with x = 7.
