Abstract : Orga 3045 (sodium tetrafluoropropionate) was tested alone or in combination with paraquat, MSMA or Weedazol TL (aminotriazole at 250 g + ammonium thiocyanate at 220 g/litre) on weeds mowed or left unmowed before application. The effect of Orga 3045 was first noticeable after 4 weeks and was maximal after 8-10 weeks. Best control of Paspalum dilatatum, Chloris gayana and Sorghum halepense resulted from applying Orga 3045 at 9 litres + MSMA at 2.7 litres/ha, or Orga 3045 at 13.5 litres/ha to mown weeds. Control of Cynodon dactylon was inconsistent. No phytotoxic effects were observed on citrus, mango [Mangifera indica], avocado [Persea gratissima], or apple trees (all over 5 years old) when the orchards were treated with Orga 3045 at 9-13.5 litres/ha, but pecans [Carya illinoensis] were severely injured. Phytotoxic symptoms were observed in a 3-year-old apple orchard treated twice with the highest rate of Orga 3045 at a 1-month interval.
