Abstract : Plastic covered raised beds are being used extensively for the production of various vegetables; drip irrigation systems for water conservation and fertigation of vegetable crops have been developed. Drip tape is used for strawberries while drip irrigation with plastic mulch is widely used for the production of vegetables, flowers, strawberries and other fruit crops. Rice straw windbreaks are constructed for each individual water melon plant. Melons are also grown in labour intensive polythene film tunnels. Plastic greenhouses are used for growing fruit crops (mangoes, musk melons); hydroponics and plastic mulches are not uncommon.
