Abstract : Fifteen stone grafts were prepared for each of 7 mango cultivars (Mallika, Baneshan, Dashehari, Totapuri, Mulgoa, Pairi and Alphanso) during the first week of July 1986 using 7- to 10-day-old seedlings as rootstocks. The scion shoots were defoliated 8-10 days prior to grafting. Mulgoa gave 100% successful grafts and was significantly superior to other cultivars. Mulgoa showed greatest mean height (14.2 cm) and mean number of leaves (7.26) one month after grafting. The important commercial cultivars, Alphanso, Pairi and Totapuri, recorded 40.00, 53.33 and 53.33% grafting success, respectively, which would be commercially viable due to the convenience and ease of stone grafting compared with the traditional method of mango propagation (inarching).
