Abstract : Four years' studies have shown that ethephon (200 p.p.m.) can be used to induce heavy flowering and fruiting during the off year in the biennial bearing cv. Langra. The spray application of ethephon should be started during September and repeated 4 to 5 times at 15- to 20-day intervals. Higher concentrations of ethephon (500, 1000 and 2000 p.p.m.) induced moderate to heavy leaf abscission. Consecutive applications of 200 p.p.m. for 3 years did not cause any decline in vigour or yielding ability.
