Abstract : Five insecticides were tested in sprays at 2 times (in March after harvest, and in November when the fruits were the size of golf balls) against Aulacaspis tubercularis on mangoes in South Africa in 1988-89. The cleanest fruit at harvest (0-5 female scales/fruit) were obtained from trees sprayed in November. The percentage of uninfested fruit for spraying in November and (in brackets) March was 89 (13) for a mixture of fenvalerate plus phenthoate, 84 (15) for buprofezin, 81 (21) for phenthoate, 74 (37) for mineral oil, 61 (13) for prothiofos and 24 (17) for no treatment.
