Effect of ethylene producing chemicals on growth and flowering of mango (Mangifera indica L.).

Abstract : Trees of the biennial-bearing cv. Langra were sprayed twice in August and September with 1-methionine, ascorbic acid or n-propanol at various rates in their off-year, selected limbs being treated. In the second year of the trial, 3 repeat sprays were applied at monthly intervals from May. However, cycloheximide was tested in the first year only; it inhibited linear growth as did all the compounds, but unlike them had no effect on flowering. 1-methionine (in particular) and ascorbic acid were most effective, the highest percentage flowering being obtained with 10-2M in both cases.
