Abstract : Three sprays of Ethrel (ethephon) at 250 or 500 p.p.m., were applied to mango trees, cvs Langra and Bombai, at monthly intervals during August, September and October and the effects on growth and flowering were assessed. Shoot growth was inhibited and the percentage of shoots that flowered was more than doubled. In the following year, however, conditions were unfavourable for flowering or fruiting, and moreover the trees were in an off-year. Ethrel at 100-800 p.p.m., applied between July and November in that year, had little effect on vegetative growth or flowering.
