Abstract : In a trial at Dharwad, 25-year-old trees of cv. Alphonso were sprayed with Ethrel [ethephon], Cycocel [chlormequat], Alar [daminozide] or TIBA during the period between Aug. and Nov. The trees were about to enter an 'off' year. The best treatment was 2 sprays of TIBA at 100 p.p.m. one month apart beginning on 15 Oct. which resulted in 100% of fruited shoots developing flower panicles. However, 2 sprays of Alar at 500 p.p.m. a fortnight apart beginning on 15 Oct. gave the highest mean number of flower panicles per shoot (13.5 compared with 1.6 in the water-sprayed control).
