Abstract : The production of tropical and subtropical fruits in this area (particularly in Australia and South Africa) is reviewed in relation to that in the rest of the world. The potential and marketing of new tropical fruits, and the present status of research and its future direction are discussed. Data are presented on the production of bananas, pawpaws, pineapples, mangoes, avocados, Macadamia and minor tropical crops.
