Abstract : The commercial potential of tropical fruits in the subtropics is reviewed with regard to 4 basic questions: (1) can the species survive? (2) are conditions suitable for good flower initiation and development? (3) are conditions suitable for balanced growth and production? and (4) can good quality fruits be obtained? Crops considered in detail are bananas, pineapples, pawpaws, avocados, mangoes, cherimoyas, Macadamia and Litchi.
