The cumulative effects of Cultar (paclobutrazol) on Valencia mango.

Abstract : Application of 20 cm³ Cultar (containing 5 g paclobutrazol in 40 litres water) to the soil beneath trees of mango cv. Valencia in 4 consecutive years decreased growth, but yields were maintained as fruit set was improved. The most effective application date was 4-5 months before flower induction. The rate of setting increased, but the number of inflorescences decreased, in proportion to the number of applications. Treatment slightly increased fruit grade and enabled about 50% of the crop to be harvested 10 days earlier. Withholding treatment for 1 year after application in 2 consecutive years improved the effect of treatment in the 4th year.
