Effect of rootstock on growth and yield of 'Alphonso' mango (Mangifera indica).

Abstract : A trial consisting of 8 rootstocks (Alphonso, Vellaikulumban, Bappakai, Chandrakaran, Kurukan, Muvandan, Mylepelian and Olour) with scion Alphonso mango was conducted during 1979-89 at Bangalore. Seven growth and 2 yield parameters were recorded annually. Rootstock Olour was vigorous for scion Alphonso, giving the greatest plant height (3.54 m), largest tree volume (27.3 m³) and highest fruit yield (cumulative values of 294.4 fruits/plant and 67.8 kg/plant and mean values of 42.1 fruits/plant and 0.69 kg/plant).
