Abstract : The paper considers the current and potential prospects for Indian mango exports. After giving a brief introduction to mango cultivation, the paper moves on to consider the position of India in the world market and also gives consideration to the current destination of its mango exports. The paper identifies a number of weaknesses in the Indian mango export business, namely: an over dependence on one particular variety; an over priced product; a highly competitive middle eastern market; problems with product quality and quarantine laws; and the difficulty in obtaining investment finance. The paper also considers export potential and outlines a strategy for the successful export of mangoes to Europe and the Middle East.
