Abstract : Mango fruits, cv. Dashehari, were treated with Ethrel [ethephon] at 0-750 p.p.m. after which they were kept under dry grass for 5 weeks. Fruit colour, ripening, flavour and quality were best with Ethrel at 500 p.p.m. In another trial in which fruits were dipped in Ethrel at 500 p.p.m. while still on the tree, dipped fruits ripened 2 days later and the fruit removal force was greatly reduced. Moreover, fruit quality was enhanced, as indicated by the much higher TSS : acid ratio.
