Abstract : Removal of apical buds or developing panicles on terminal shoots of mango cv. Sensation trees just prior to or during the flowering period was evaluated as a means of synchronizing flowering. Pruning was effective at synchronizing flowering whether performed on 3, 17 or 31 July, but was most effective when performed on 31 July. Pruning generally delayed the onset of flowering from mid-July to mid- to late Aug. There was a marked reduction in the number of fruits retained by the pruned trees, which gave rise to reduced yields despite increased fruit size. Reductions in economic returns associated with pruning were largely offset by the increased value of the larger fruits.
