Abstract : Subjects dealt with by the Economics and Planning Department include: studies of the West European market for Egyptian citrus, the world market for fresh pineapples, the pyrethrum market and the structure of the pepper [Piper nigrum] market. The Food Commodities Department's work has included aspects of banana growing in the Windward Islands and Jamaica, out-of-season vegetables for export to Europe from Malawi and Sudan, tetraploid bananas, fruit firmness in bananas, and mango flavour. The Non-food Commodities Department reports work on spice development in the British Solomon Islands, the composition of nutmeg oil, plant steroids, and pesticide residues in tea.
