Abstract : Isoenzyme analysis of leaves of the Mangifera indica cv. Naomi using 6 enzyme systems indicated that it originated from cv. Palmer either by self-pollination or by cross-pollination with Maya, Haden, Nimrod or Irwin. Naomi is a mid-season cultivar which is harvested in September under Israeli conditions, 3-4 weeks after Haden and Tommy Atkins. The flowering season is early to intermediate, lasting about 6-8 weeks. Fruits are oblong, usually with a small but sometimes absent sinus, and weigh about 450 g. The smooth skin is thin with red pigmentation and covers the yellow flesh that is tender, juicy and nearly fibreless. The flavour of Naomi fruits is mild to moderately sweet with a weak, pleasant aroma. Harvested fruits are sensitive to rough handling.
