Abstract : The conidia of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides [Glomerella cingulata] were able to infect the fruit, young leaves, stems and flowers of mango cv. Irwin without wounding. Symptoms developed at infected sites without a latent period under saturated conditions. The relationship between climatic factors and mango anthracnose was studied in 2 fields of mango cv. Irwin during 1980-84 at Yu-jing and Chiayi, Taiwan. Rainfall, high RH and high temp. favoured disease development. Continuous rainfall was the most important factor contributing to anthracnose on mango fruit in Taiwan. A positive correlation was observed between RH and rainfall during leaf expansion and the number of reddish-brown spots on young leaves. Black spots appeared on the same leaves after maturity.
