Abstract : Two new cultivars of mango that originated in the Bankura district of West Bengal as chance seedlings of the existing cultivars Bombai Yellow and Tollygunge Golapkhas were named Digambar Bhog and Sarada Bhog, respectively. The physical attributes and chemical constituents of the new cultivars were determined at 5 stages of maturity. The pattern of fruit development and concentrations of total, reducing and non-reducing sugars were similar for both cultivars. Fruit acidity was high early on and then fell sharply. Ascorbic acid content fell dramatically as full maturity was attained. Fruits of Digambar Bhog were heavier and sweeter with a lower ascorbic acid content than the other cultivar; both are gaining in popularity in the area.
