Abstract : Modified atmosphere (MA) conditions (O2 and CO2 concentrations) inside plastic film packages containing mango cv. Nam Dok Mai fruits were modelled. Parameters for PVC [poly(vinyl chloride)], PE [polyethylene] and PP [polypropylene] films were included. A method of determining respiration rate from the time history of the gas concentrations inside the film package instead of from direct measurements was devised. Satisfactory results were obtained in practical experiments carried out to verify the model. A computer program to design packages for Nam Dok Mai mangoes was also developed.
