Abstract : A growth model was compiled for bearing trees of cv. Sensation for the seasons 1990-91 and 1991-92. In both seasons a cyclic pattern was observed. Summer shoot and root growth occurred at the same times in both seasons, but autumn growth and flowering began a month earlier in the second season; this was attributed to the different climatic conditions. Different flowering patterns were observed within an individual tree. The data accrued by the end of the second season indicated that there was more growth on the N.-facing side than on the S.-facing side of a tree. This possibility will be further investigated. A management programme for Sensation was compiled after the growth pattern was determined; since the programme will change depending on the phenological pattern each year, constant monitoring of trees is essential. Different programmes need to be compiled for each cultivar in different production areas.
