Abstract : Six types of mulch (white polyethylene, black polyethylene, paddy straw, sawdust, dry mango leaves and paddy husk) were applied to newly planted lemon cuttings at the end of Feb. Cutting survival was highest with white polyethylene mulch (49.3%); black polyethylene mulch and no mulch gave similar values. Paddy straw and dry mango leaves reduced cutting survival compared with no mulch. Weed density was lowest with black and white polyethylene (63 and 56 weeds/mē, respectively). Polyethylene mulches also resulted in greatest cutting growth.
