Abstract : Two-year-old mango cv. Haden trees were sprayed with KNO3 (6%), urea (4%), Ethrel [ethephon] (1 g/litre) or mepiquat chloride (1 or 2.5 g /litre), alone or in various combinations, during Sep.-Oct., in order to promote early flowering. KNO3 significantly increased the percentage of flowering shoots and the numbers of mixed panicles and vegetative shoots/axillary branch. Mepiquat chloride sprays followed by KNO3 3 weeks later also promoted flowering, which occurred 9 weeks earlier than in untreated controls. Ethrel sprayed once or twice 3 weeks or 3 and 4 weeks, respectively, after mepiquat chloride significantly reduced vegetative shoot emergence.
