Abstract : The caustic latex exuded from the site of the peduncle in harvested mango fruits can cause injuries to the fruit surface [sapburn]. Two methods of eliminating this latex were tested with mango cv. Haden fruits. In the first method, fruits were placed upside down on the soil surface (traditional method) while in the other they were placed in cells of specially designed perforated plastic trays. The tray method resulted in a lower percentage of damaged fruits (23.15%) than the traditional method (35.30%). The tray method also resulted in cleaner fruits than the traditional method.
