Desiccation and cryopreservation of excised embryonic axes of mango seeds.

Abstract : Excised embryonic axes of mango were more tolerant to desiccation than whole seeds. After desiccation to 11% moisture content, 70% of the excised axes germinated in vitro. There was some indication that pretreatment with sucrose or proline could increase tolerance to desiccation but results were not clear. Embryonic axes of different moisture contents (8.7-38.6%) lost their viability after 24 h in liquid nitrogen.
