Effect of PP333 on flowering and fruiting of Mangifera indica var. Zihua.

Abstract : The effect of PP333 [paclobutrazol] on flowering and fruiting of mango cv. Zihua was studied in 1991-92. PP333 was applied at 0, 2.5, 5.0 or 10.0 g a.i. per tree in June, Aug., Sep. or Oct. Results showed that trees treated with 5.0 g PP333/tree produced 15.6 kg of fruit, on average, compared with only 2.9-12.2 kg in controls, an increased of 27.9-437.9%. The percentage of flowering shoots in controls was 5.2-37.8%, compared with 67.0-100.0% in treated trees. It was concluded that the main reason for increased yields was the increase of flowering shoot rate.
