Abstract : Fourteen kinds of fruits grown in Brazil were tested in the laboratory at 29°C, 75% RH and LD 10:14 for nutritive value and acceptability to larvae and adults of Ceratitis capitata. The best results for larvae were obtained with mangoes, the percentage adult emergence averaging 69.8, time to emergence 18.84 days, wing measurement 2.81 mm, and egg production 22.8 per female. The worst results were obtained with sweet lime, lemon and apple, from which no adults emerged. Both larvae and adults preferred a fruit of adequate nutritive value (mango) over one with inadequate nutritive value.
