Abstract : As part of phase I of the breeding programme of the Instituut vir Tropiese en Subtropiese Gewasse, approximately 109 seedlings of the cv. Sensation and 147 open pollinated seedlings of unknown origin were evaluated. Twelve seedlings from each group were selected for evaluation in different climatic regions of the country in phase II. Brief descriptions and results from the trials are given for the 8 most promising selections in terms of fruit colour, quality, yield and time of ripening.
