Abstract : Flowers of 7 cultivars were hand pollinated in vitro with their own pollen or pollen from each of the other cultivars, incubated at 25°C for 24 h and then fixed for examination of pistils to see whether pollen tubes had reached the ovules. Results showed that some cultivars, such as Sensation, were better pollenizers than others, although results were affected by the condition of some of the trees. In field experiments, open pollination between orchards of different cultivars was assessed for degree of cross pollination using isoenzyme analysis. Percentage cross pollination was very low in all combinations except Keitt × Kent.
