Abstract : This paper reports on the progress made in a breeding programme designed to combine the preferred consumer attributes of mango (Mangifera indica) cv. Kensington with improved skin colour, disease resistance and postharvest performance from selected Florida cultivars. Progress in the development of a novel technique using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry of leaf volatiles to determine genetic lineages of progenies is described.
