Abstract : Exogenous supplies of starch increased conidial germination of C. musae on banana fruits and C. gloeosporioides [Glomerella cingulata] on mangoes, and also favoured the formation of appressoria and sporulation. Mono- and disaccharides at lower concn were conducive to conidial germination and sporulation, but not to appressorium formation. The hard structure and higher starch content of immature fruits provide conditions for latent infection by pathogens which produce appressoria.
