Abstract : Increases that are planned in the export of mangos from India to other countries are hindered by insect pests, of which one of the most important is Deporaus marginatus (Pasc.), a weevil that cuts the new leaves, especially from June onwards. Control tests were carried out at Basti in the State of Uttar Pradesh in 1968-70 with six insecticides in sprays and dusts. The results, which are given in tables, showed that all treatments were significantly better than none in protecting the leaves, but that a wettable-powder spray of DDT at 0.25% and an emulsion spray of dichlorvos (Nuvan) at 0.05% were the most consistently effective. An emulsion spray of BHC and dust of BHC and pyrethrins (Pyrodust) were significantly more effective in 1968-69 than in 1969-70.
